KAREN SUZANNE WHITTAKER-JONES

Karen Suzanne Whittaker-Jones born to Theodore and Angela Whittaker on 1st October 1969 in the northernmost district of Corozal.
A product of St. Francis Xavier Primary School, Mary Hill R. C. Primary School, Corozal Community College and Corozal Community Junior College.
She holds an associate degree in Secretarial Studies from Corozal Junior College, Corozal Town.
Proficient in English, Spanish, Shorthand, Typewriting and as well in Minute taking.
Bi-lingual in English/Spanish
She joined the Belize Public Service on 18th June 1990 where she gave secretarial support to a team of hard-working Public Officers at the then Establishment Department located in the Belmopan
Civic Centre. Her stay at the Establishment Department was short lived as her tour of duty commenced and are listed below:

Reminiscence of an era where Mrs. Jones operated in a manual fashion as a secretary when technology was in its embryonic stage and computers were non-existent. She vividly recalls her first day at work where letters, memorandum, paysheets and vouchers were done on an Olympia Typewriter. There were no heavy-duty photocopying machines and working out of the Establishment Department meant mass production of Circulars which were sent to every Ministry/Department within the Public Service for information purposes. Stencils of the product were cut, placed on a gestetner machine and copies had to be delivered manually. Today, something like air conditioning that we have now become accustomed to is a luxury. Back then, office windows were kept open with the wind many times blowing away her papers, hence rocks were used as paper weight. Imagine how creative and resilient secretaries were so as to keep proper records. These acts of duties as small as it may be, hold true to the person she has now so proudly become - an exemplary secretary of the Belize Public Service.

Karen Whittaker-Jones is happily wed to Floyd Alexander Jones Sr. and is the proud mother of Kaehla Jones and Floyd Jones Jr.
