Candida Williams-Allen
Mrs. Candida Williams-Allen is the second child of five beautiful children born to loving parents Mr. Hughington Williams and Mrs. Loretta Williams who helped to mould her into the person she is today, a God-fearing person with a heart full of love and kindness.
Candida is currently serving as a Senior Secretary to the Chief Executive Officer at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology. Serving in the Public Service has been a gratifying experience. Working in the secretarial grade has meant direct interaction with the general public who are seeking assistance and information and acting as a customer service representative for the Belizean people. At the Ministry of Education, one of her daily tasks is assisting with the authentication of academic documents. She enjoys assisting with this work because people travel from all over the country expecting this service, and she does her best to ensure that an officer is available at the Ministry to assist them.
Candida began her career as a Typist (re-designated to Secretary III) in September of 1988 at the Prime Minister Office and later transferred to the Ministry of Finance. Over the years, she has worked in various other Ministries and Departments including Ministry of Natural Resources, Department of the Environment, National Emergency Management Organization and the Ministry of the Public Service. Looking back, they had to work extremely hard and tirelessly as secretaries, as there were no computers then—only typewriters. Everything had to be typewritten, including pay sheets and vouchers which were of high demand, these documents are now computerized.
Throughout the years, she has worked hard to qualify herself. In the earlier years, qualifying in the secretarial grade involved taking difficult external examinations which included the infamous Shorthand. Thankfully, Candida was successful in those exams and advanced to the level of Senior Secretary in November 2007. She pursued further studies at the University of Belize and earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Management in June 2014.
In her personal life, she serves in church, enjoys exercising and spending time with her precious family. The strength from Almighty God, beloved parents, her precious husband, and three beautiful daughters has been her inspirations throughout her career in the Public Service.
It is her prayer and hope that one day the Belize Public Service will be a place where all public officers are treated with respect, dignity, and given equal opportunities for advancement. She hopes that when we retire, we will be well rewarded for all our hard work and dedication. Candida’s message to all public officers is to serve others selflessly as this is more fulfilling than gaining for oneself.
She would like to thank the Government of Belize and People of Belize for giving her this opportunity to work in the Belize Public Service and to serve Belize.
