Carolyn Gillett

Carolyn Gillett dedicated nearly 36 years of her life to serving in the Public Service, building a rewarding career marked by commitment, experience, and meaningful relationships.

Carolyn began her career in the Immigration Department on 13 August 1990, when she joined the Public Service as an Immigration Officer. Throughout her career, she gained valuable experience, developed lasting friendships, and had the opportunity to serve the public in various capacities. She eventually served as an Immigration Assistant 1.

Over the years, Carolyn’s journey in the Public Service provided her with many memorable experiences and valuable life lessons. She remains grateful for the opportunities she was given, the knowledge she gained, and, most importantly, the many people she had the privilege of working alongside.

For Carolyn, her colleagues played an important role in making her career meaningful. The friendships, teamwork, laughter, challenges, and shared experiences created memories that she will carry with her long after retirement.

After almost 36 years of dedicated service, Carolyn officially retired from the Public Service on 24 July 2026. Although her career was not always without challenges, she looks back with pride on the journey she made and gratitude for the many years she spent serving her country and the public.

As she reflects on her career, Carolyn’s message to upcoming public officers is simple:

“It’s not where you work, it’s who you work with that makes it worth going to every day.”

She encourages those beginning their careers in the Public Service to cherish their colleagues, respect one another, work together, and make the most of their time in service. She believes that the people they meet and the relationships they build can become some of the most valuable and lasting memories of their careers.
