After Catherine completed her studies at the Belize Technical College, she was later employed by the government of Belize, to work as Weather Observer at the National Meteorological Service in May of 1987. During her tenure of service, she was promoted to every level of the department over of over 37 years. These positions were Class1V, Class111, Class11 and Class1 Meteorological Officer. Thereafter she was promoted to Deputy Chief Meteorologist and later as Chief Meteorologist of the department. She was proud to be the First Female to hold the position which she did from 2016 to 2020. It was one of her proudest achievements, particularly to her Mother Mrs Ann Marie Cumberbatch, family and friends. Catherine worked hard and diligently to achieve the position as Chief Meteorologist or Head Administrator at the National Meteorological Service of Belize. Her motto was and still is “If you sail in the ship of ambition you will anchor in the harbour of success.” Yes, she sailed that ship with pride and dedication and believes that she is an exemplary Public Officer. As the head administrator at the National Meteorological Service of Belize Ms Cumberbatch said her greatest role was to inspire, innovate, motivate and to help others reach their potential during her tenure as Public Officer.
Ms Cumberbatch did not only serve her country as a Meteorological Officer, but also as a member of the Volunteer Battalion of the Belize Defence Force where she served as the lead saxophone player in the military band for over 22 years and she was also involved in the Infantry section of the element.
She said she now looks forward to her next chapter in life, which is retirement.
