Emma Graciela Gabriel
I am a dedicated public officer with a passion for empowering individuals and communities. My journey began in 1986 when I became a pupil teacher after completing my primary school leaving certificate. I subsequently earned a Second-Class Teacher's Certificate, followed by a First-Class Teacher's Certificate, demonstrating my commitment to the field. I continued my academic pursuits, attending Teachers College, which was later merged with the University of Belize (UB), graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Education in 2010.
Balancing motherhood and higher education presented numerous challenges, but my unwavering faith and perseverance propelled me forward. I found creative ways to support myself, including baking and selling bread and tamales. Despite facing obstacles like electricity and water outages, I remained focused on my goals.
In 2011, I transitioned to a role as a counselor/social worker at the San Ignacio Hospital, MOHW. Here, I had the privilege of providing HIV testing and counseling to PLHIV (people living with HIV) and anyone seeking support. I also facilitated trainings for staff and community groups on important issues such as domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination, and self-esteem. My work aimed to raise awareness, foster understanding, and create a more inclusive and supportive environment. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have served my country and made a positive impact on people's lives. My work extended beyond the hospital walls, as I participated in health fairs and provided outreach services.
My commitment to education and community well-being continues to guide my efforts. I am passionate about empowering individuals and advocating for a more equitable and just world.
