Marlene Mardell Rivas
Marlene Rivas, born on January 30, 1972, in Independence Village, is a dedicated and
accomplished nurse whose career has been marked by a profound commitment to healthcare
and community service. As the eldest of two daughters, Marlene's journey from a small village
to becoming a prominent healthcare professional is both inspiring and remarkable.
Her educational journey began at St. Pius X RC School in Mango Creek, where she attended
from 1976 to 1984. She continued her secondary education at Ecumenical High School in
Dangriga Town from 1984 to 1988 and further pursued her studies at Ecumenical Junior
College. Driven by a deep-seated desire to make a difference, Marlene recognized her calling
for nursing and enrolled in the Bliss School of Nursing, where she obtained a post-basic
midwifery certification in 1997.
In 2000, Marlene took on the role of Nurse Incharge (Nursing Supervisor) at the Independence
Poly Clinic, working alongside Dr. Estrella. Over the course of 14 years, she played a crucial
role in serving Independence and 14 surrounding villages. Her dedication and expertise were
further honed through a Nursing Management Course in Tokyo, Japan, in 2008, where she
gained valuable insights into advanced technology and the importance of time management in
nursing care.
Since 2015, Marlene has been a valuable asset to Punta Gorda Hospital, serving as a nurse
specialist, grade 2 concentrating mainly in Labor and Delivery. Her work continues to impact the
lives of many, reflecting her unwavering commitment to healthcare and community service.
Beyond her professional life, Marlene enjoys watching television, dancing, and socializing with
friends and colleagues. Her decision to pursue a career in nursing was profoundly influenced by
a personal childhood experience where a lack of healthcare resources made a lasting
impression on her. This pivotal moment fueled her resolve to become a nurse and dedicate her
life to serving her community.
Marlene Rivas’ career is a testament to her passion for nursing and her enduring dedication to
improving the health and well-being of those she serves
