Nomination Procedures

The Ministry of the Public Service is introducing a new category to the Public Service Outstanding Awards: “The Keeper of the Flame” and is now accepting nominations for that award only.

Nominations for the Keeper of the Flame Award follow the timeline and other requirements of the Public Service Outstanding Awards, with the exception that:

  • For this inception year, the call will be open for 2 weeks only upon the circulation of the ministry’s official CIRCULAR, therefore the submission deadline is Friday, August 16, 2024, at 12 noon.
  • The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry may independently select the “Keeper of the Flames Award, upon the criteria having been vetted and confirmed by the Customer Service Quality Assurance Unit which acts as the Screening Entity.
  • Not more than two Keeper of the Flame Awards will be granted in any one calendar year.

Nominations are accepted online only and the nomination itself must be no more than six pages plus

  • Be supplemented by at least two and up to five letters of endorsement. Letters of endorsement may be signed by more than one individual.
  • All documents are to be uploaded via the link in the online form.

Self-nominations are not accepted.

The Public Service Outstanding Awards includes nine categories: (See Categories page for more details of the criteria for each)

  1. Keeper of the Flame
  2. Governor General Legacy Award
  3. Prime Minister’s Leadership Award
  4. Distinguished Public Service Career Award
  5. Award of Innovation
  6. Outstanding Rookie Award
  7. Outstanding Achiever Award
  8. Excellence in Citizen/Customer-focused Delivery Award
  9. Heroic Act Award

All Nominations must include these documents:

  1. General Information, as is required in the online form plus, the following attachments:
  2. A cover letter from the nominator (not counted as one of the six pages)
  3. Letter of agreement from the nominee (not counted as one of the six pages)
  4. One-page summary of the accomplishments that the nominator believes make the nominee worthy of a Public Service Outstanding Award.
  5. Thorough detail on specific accomplishments. (This should comprise the bulk of the nomination information and may include discussions of creative and innovative programs to which the nominee has made a major contribution, the major impacts of the nominee’s work as a public manager or program leader and show how he/she has “made a difference.
  6. Brief summary of positions held and educational background.
  7. Civic, community, and professional involvements conducted outside of the work environment (if none, state none)
  8. Other awards received (if none, state none).

*Numbers 4 – 7 (above) should be expressed in no more than five pages*
