OLYMPIA RAMCLAM
Olympia Ramclam was born on December 9, 1971, in Mango Creek, Independence Village. Since 1991, she has resided in Dangriga Town, where she is a proud mother of two children—one son and one daughter. She received her secondary education at Saint Catherine Academy High School in Belize City. In 1990, she began her career with the Government of Belize under the Vector Control Program, where she has served with dedication for over 35 years.
Ms. Ramclam expanded her professional skills when she became a Certified Phlebotomist in 2000. From 1998 to 2019, she also worked as a Laboratory Assistant while serving as a Malaria Microscopist, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to public health. Her expertise in malaria diagnosis is recognized regionally and internationally. In 2014, she was certified as a microscopist in Mexico City through the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and in 2023, she further advanced her skills by achieving Level 1 National Certification in Malaria Microscopy. She is currently the only person in Belize to hold this certification, making her a unique and invaluable asset to the country’s malaria elimination efforts. In November 2023, Ms. Ramclam certified the first five District Malaria Microscopists in Belize, marking a historic milestone for the nation. Since 2021, she has served as the head of the National Reference Malaria Laboratory for Belize, where she conducts workshops across the country with hospital laboratories, private labs, and district microscopists. Her leadership and expertise play a critical role in Belize’s progress toward being officially certified as malaria-free.
Ms. Ramclam is admired not only for her technical expertise but also for her passion, integrity, and dedication. She believes that true success comes not from qualifications alone but from common sense, commitment, and a genuine love for the work you do.
