Remijio Canul

Mr. Remijio Canul, Staff Sergeant (Retired) was born and raised in the village of Guinea Grass in the District of Orange Walk. Upon becoming a young adult, he held different jobs until he decided to join the Belize Defence Force on 19th February 1990. Mr. Canul successfully completed his Basic Recruit Training Course at Price Barracks, Ladyville on 13th June 1990. Upon completion of his training, Recruit Canul was selected and awarded with the prestigious award of Champion Recruit for Intake No. 26. During Private Canul’s second year in the Force, he became the victim of a very serious and tragic accident which claimed the life of three soldiers and a civilian leaving him as the only survivor. After spending many months hospitalized and despite not being fully recovered, Private Canul strived for his best regardless of his physical disabilities. His perseverance and determination did not allow a medical history to hinder him back from performing well.
Staff Sergeant (Ret’d) Remigio Canul began his Army career on the 19th of February 1990 as a Private Soldier in the Belize Defence Force. This was the beginning of what proved to be a long and fruitful career path where he held multiple positions such as rifleman, Logistical Clerk, Accounts Clerk, Company Clerk and Chief Clerk. Upon his retirement, Mr. Canul held the rank of Staff Sergeant. His versatility and willingness to learn made him a perfect candidate for various promotional courses. He was selected to participate in prominent training such as the Caricom Disaster Response Unit’s Mission (CDRU) in St Kitts and Nevis and the Information Analyst and Central America Regional Intelligence (CIRC) IV Conference in Costa Rica.
After recovering from his unfortunate incident, Staff Sergeant Canul’s career path became centered in the Clerical field. Here, his determination and dedication allowed him to serve as the Force’s Chief Clerk stationed at the Force’s Headquarters in Ladyville, Price Barracks. Mr. Canul was awarded with the esteemed Long Service & Good Conduct Medal and the 15 Years Anniversary Medal. On the 19th of February 2012 Staff Sergeant (Ret’d) Canul was awarded with the 22 Years Distinguish Service Certificate after serving in the Belize Defence Force for 22 years.
Mr. Canul’s Assessment of Service Conduct and Character upon his retirement from the force was prominently classified as Exemplary.
Immediately after leaving the Belize Defence Force, Mr. Canul joined the renowned Belize Police Department. He successfully completed his Basic Special Constable Training at the Police Training Academy in the City of Belmopan on 27th January 2012. Upon completion of his training, he was given the post of Special Constable in which he was assigned the responsibility of a Protective Service Personnel/VIP Security for judges allocated to the High Court of Belize. On January 2012, Mr, Remijio Canul was assigned to the Honorable Justice Denis Hanomansingh which at the time was holding Court Sessions for the Country’s Northern Districts. His exemplary work performance was proven after Justice Hanomansingh stated: “Mr. Canul is a well-disciplined and mature person who has shown his diligence and loyalty towards the Court and all Judges at the Supreme Court Level”.
Since Justice Denis Hanomansingh’s retirement on the 6th of December 2018, Mr. Canul has been assigned to several Judges of the Supreme Court presently the High Court of Belize. He’s been assigned to senior judges such as Honorable Madam Justice Shonna Griffith, Honorable Justice Colin Williams, Honorable Justice Westmin James, Honorable Justice Herbert Lord, and presently Mr. Canul continues to provide the highest degree of Protective Services to the Honorable Justice Raphael Morgan who is presently holding Court Sessions for the Northern Districts of Belize namely Corozal and Orange Walk. His overall excellent performance and dedication to the field, has merited him 35 years of experience and knowledge in the Public Service. Today he proudly receives this very much deserved award as he aspires to continue providing his dedicated service to the Country’s prominent department.
