Yadira Kantun
After a remarkable and fulfilling Public Service career spanning over 37 years, Ms. Yadira Kantun bid farewell to the formal workforce and heartily embraced the well-deserved chapter of retirement on 17th February 2024. Born on 17th February 1969 in the pristine hills of San Ignacio, her pathway is a testament to her exemplary dedication, resilience, and a passion for making a difference wherever her light has shined. The stepping stone to her primary school education was St. Andrews Presbyterian Anglican School, from where she furthered her secondary education at Sacred Heart College School. Ms. Kantun is a proud graduate of the University of the West Indies Continuing Studies where she successfully completed the Certificate in Public Administration Course and subsequently her Bachelors Degree in Management Studies with honours.
“Ms. Yadira” or “Ms. Yads” as she is known or referred to most of her acquaintances and colleagues began her Public Service career in 1989 at the then Ministry of Commerce and Industry as a Second Class Clerk and traversed through the ranks in the Administrative Grade to the peak as an Administrative Officer I, where she retired from the Ministry of Sustainable Development.
Throughout her tenure in the Public Service, she has always strived for excellence in the execution of her duties. Her level of dedication is unmatched as she was often called upon for advice and guidance from her fellow colleagues in the Public Service. She was a dedicated Public Officer with strong work ethics that brought a diverse range of skills, experience and knowledge attained over the thirty-seven years in the Public Service through formal education and professional experience. She always had a passion for continued learning and the will to apply her knowledge and experience in the ever-changing workplace.
Throughout her career again, Ms. Kantun has served on numerous working groups including the review of the General Workers’ Regulations, National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), and the upgrade and restructuring and re-classification of the Nursing Profession to name a few. In all of her service to the various working groups, she has been very instrumental due to her vast experience in the Public Service.
Beyond retirement, Ms. Kantun is an active member of her society, venturing into entrepreneurship and dedicating herself to her beloved farm which she holds dearly to her heart. At the heart of her success also was the unwavering support of her sons who she loves dearly.
In retirement, Ms. Kantun is dearly excited about spending quality time with her family, creating lifetime memories to be passed unto generations and cherishing and enjoying the simple joys of life.
As Ms. Kantun has embarked on a new phase, she has left behind her mark in the Public Service – that of leadership, integrity, commitment and dedication which her hope is to impact the community of colleagues and friends and those whose lives have been touched and changed by her.
