Yvonne Tyndall-Howell
Her journey began as an educator at the tender age of sixteen. As a primary school teacher, she taught in rural and urban communities of this country. During this time, she also served as a part-time teacher at the then St. John’s College Extension Division and St. John’s College School of Professional Studies.
After twenty years of service in teaching, she joined the wider education realm as a coordinator at the Teacher Education and Development Services (TEDS), and recently at the Teacher Learning Institute in the Ministry of Education.
As part of her portfolio, Mrs. Howell coordinates and organize professional learning opportunities for teachers to ensure compliance with professional development standards and policies. For over ten years, she served as a member of the external assessment team for student teachers enrolled in the Associate of Arts in Primary Education Program and worked closely with assessors from the Joint Board of Teacher Education (JBTE) in Jamaica. As part of the wider professional community, she is a member of the International Literacy Association (ILA).
Mrs. Howell is passionate about supporting teachers using authentic strategies for improved learning. Her professional interests include digital literacy, culturally sustaining pedagogy, and social justice.
Besides her great work ethics and professionalism, she enjoys gardening, cooking, baking, and travelling. She is also an avid follower of Christ and lives by Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.”
